Google Pixel Buds are causing something of a stir in the tech world, not least because they are so kind to the pocket. Premium performance with features like custom drivers, top-notch connectivity and access to Google Assistant should command a premium price tag – but Google has pitched these at a remarkable budget-friendly £99.99
In terms of sound, Pixel Buds boast custom created 12mm dynamic drivers, and the fact each bud connects to Bluetooth increases the possibility of what Google describes as “clear uninterrupted sound”. Google has retained the Fast Pair function, so connectivity with Android audio is speedy, and old stability issues have been addressed.
Playback time is around 5 hours, and this can be extended to as much as 24 hours, thanks to the charging case. Chatting time is around 2.5 hours, and a speedy 15 minute charge can deliver up to 3 hours playback or 1.5 hours of talk time.
Comfort is top of the list too, and the fact these buds are vented reduces pressure on the inner ear and improves spatial awareness. Each bud weighs a mere 0.18oz and they’re sweat and water-resistant. They come with a choice of ear tips, so it’s a cinch to find the most comfortable option, and Adaptive Sound works well to adjust the volume in accordance with surroundings.
Call performance seems solid too – dual beam forming microphones keep the focus on the voice, rather that external interference, and clarity seems likely to be pretty good.
Other features include things like outer surface control, which is great in terms of convenience, plus the earbud will automatically stop playing when it’s removed from the ear, courtesy of a proximity sensor. Google assistant is easy to interact with, giving you chance to access over 40 languages, as well as features like real-time directions and info – you just need to use them in conjunction with an Android 6.0+ phone.
Google Pixel Buds A series come in Clearly White or Dark Olive. They’re available for just £99.99 from 17th June.
