Panasonic has recently announced its brand-new Lumix S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 lens for L-mount bodies. The lens is based on the LUMIX S Series Full-frame Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Camera’s unique L-mount system and functions as an interchangeable standard zoom lens designed for use by professional photographers and videographers alike.
Focal length
This compact and lightweight lens has a focal length of 20-60mm, which is wider but slightly shorter than the majority of variable aperture standard zoom capabilities that normally sit between 28 and 80mm. If you’re looking to shoot indoors, the wide-angle lens is perfect for capturing photos when space is at a premium. The lens is unstabilised and has 11 elements, three of which are extra-low dispersion, one is an ultra-high refractive index and two are aspherical. The new lens also has a 15cm minimum focus distance and a 0.43x maximum magnification, which is ideal for still life photography.
Image and video quality
The lens is also designed with a UHR (Ultra-High Refractive Index), which can ensure that your image quality remains consistently crisp from the edges of your photos to the centre while keeping the lens unit lightweight and compact.
Panasonic has also stated that the lens has been specially designed to offer premium wide-angle shooting capabilities for landscape photographers and videographers. A common problem that many videographers face when shooting with interchangeable lenses designed for still life photography is focus breathing, which is why the new lens is installed with technology that will suppress changes in effective focal length at different distances.
Durability
Panasonic’s new lens weighs 350g and is both splash and dust resistant, with the ability to function in temperatures as low as 10°C. The front of the lens is also coated with fluorine to repel both oil and water and the lens filter has a 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm with a diameter of 67 mm.
The lens will ship at the end of July at an initial price of £619.
